Turkey Point RestorationThose of us who were lucky enough to make it up to Turkey Point Light during Tony’s cruise had a special treat. Not only did we get to look in the light, we got to climb it AND see the work that the Coast Guard Reserve Lighthouse group is doing. They are repairing the platform outside the lens room and replacing wood in and around the lens room. They will also be cleaning up the iron railing.
Their work should be completed by June 24, 1999. While we are on the subject of Turkey Point there is a local group attempting to build a replica of the Keepers House at the light. As I understand it, all the approval has been obtained and now they are working on getting funding for the project. If you are interested in helping in this effort please contact Turkey Point Light Station Inc. at (410) 287-8170.
