We regret to
announce that this trip is full.
There may be a waiting list in the building so please call Bob (301) 236-4431 for further details. The Long Island Extravaganza Trip from Friday, October 8, through Monday, October 11, is “almost finalized”. It is going to be a spectacular trip and great fun for everyone. Thanks to all that sent us their survey forms or spoke to us by phone. Your suggestions and wishes were helpful in planning the final trip details. The one major change to the initial itinerary is that a chartered bus will take us from Washington/Baltimore to Long Island and back. This change has increased the cost slightly, however you will save a lot on gas and tolls. We are looking for suggestions to identify a convenient place to meet and park our cars, preferably along the I-95 corridor between Washington and Baltimore. Our trip will originate early Friday morning in the Washington/ Baltimore area, where we will board a chartered bus for Long Island. Other pick-up points will be considered if necessary. The bus is equipped with a bathroom, VCRs, and room to relax so we can enjoy the drive. When we arrive in Long Island, two guides will join our group. During the next four days, we will visit five lighthouses on land (Fire Island, Montauk Point, Horton Point, Old Field and Eaton’s Neck). We are very fortunate as the Old Field Lighthouse has never allowed access by a group. Also included in the itinerary are 3 narrated boat trips. The first, a sunset cruise, will allow us to photograph the remote offshore locations of Bug Light, Coffee Pot, Plum Island, Little Gull, Race Rock and Little Dumpling. A paddlewheeler cruise will take us to photograph Execution Rock, Sands Point and Stepping Stones. We will also have a spectacular view of the beautiful New York City skyline and stately old Long Island mansions. The last boat trip will take us to the Huntington Harbor Lighthouse where we will enjoy a dinner reception with fellow lighthouse enthusiasts from the Huntington Harbor Historical Society. In addition, we will visit 4 museums in the area. Throughout the trip, there will be time to shop in quaint fishing villages, and enjoy the coastline and ambiance of the area. The bus should return us home to the Washington/Baltimore area late Monday afternoon. We expect the final cost to be between
$520 - $540 per person. This will include two nights hotel (double
occupancy required) at the Inn at Baron’s Cove in Sag Harbor, one night
at the Hilton Hotel in Huntington Harbor (doubleoccupancy required), two
dinners, three lunches, three breakfasts, the three cruises, all
gratuities, and lighthouse and/or museum admission fees. In addition,
there will be gifts, door (or should I say bus) prizes, videos while traveling
on the bus, lighthouse information packets, snacks, and other surprises
that will make your trip even more enjoyable. Don’t miss all the
fun! Complete the trip coupon and get
your deposits in early as, based on the initial survey, we expect this
trip to fill up quickly! A waiting list will be established once
the initial 50 deposits are received. If you can send in more than the
minimum deposits the Chapter would greatly appreciate it, as there are
advance reservation expenses that must be paid. To guarantee your
reservation, please send a minimum $100 per person deposit no later than
June 1, 1999. The second payment ($250 less amount sent June 1) is
due by July 10. As of July 10, we should have received a total of
$250 per person. The final payment of remaining balance is due August
20, 1999.
If you have any questions,
contact Bob or Barbara at (301) 236-4431.
