July 25 - August 1, 2009 - Seaway Trail
by Joyce & Robert Holland

Join us on a whirlwind tour of the lighthouses of the Seaway Trail July 25 - August 1, 2009.

This trip is A GO. As of this writing, there are still seats available, so don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime lighthouse tour along the Seaway Trail from Ashtabula, OH to Ogdensburg, NY and parts of Canada. NOTE: You will need to have a valid passport or passport card for this trip. During this tour we will visit and/or see over 40 lighthouses; just to name a few: Ashtabula, Conneaut, Erie Lights (3), Barcelona, Dunkirk, Buffalo Lights (10), Ft. Niagara, Thirty Mile Point, Braddock Point, Charlotte-Genesee, Sodus Point (2), Selkirk; AND the list goes on. Some lightswill be on the Canadian side.

Included in this tour are 3 boat charters that will take us out to hard to see off shore lights such as: some Buffalo lights, Pt. Abino, Sunken Rock, Rock Island, Crossover Island, Sister Island, Galloo Island, E. Charity Shoal, Nine Mile Point, Horse, Island, and some on the Canadian side/shores of the St. Lawrence River. Contact Joyce for a complete list of lighthouses.

We plan to revisit the Erie lighthouse for those who are on this trip who were not with us in 2007, when the Chapter had a Lake Erie Lighthouse Tour. Also, time did not permit stopping to see the Ashtabula and the Conneaut lighthouses; we are going to do a little backtracking to visit these lighthouses; Ashtabula will be via boat for up close and personal photos opt. That weekend is Presque Isle Days weekend and currently the Coast Guard Station and the North Pier head light will be open to the public. We will then continue east along Lake Erie, Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River and travel all the way up to Ogdensburg, New York on our Seaway Trail Journey.

Cost for this trip will include your transportation, lodging, meals (includes a dinner at Niagara Falls,) boat charters, and lighthouse/museum admissions/donations. The cost for double occupancy (2 people sharing the same room) is $3,150.00 for members and $3,200.00 for non-members. The cost for singles is $2,125.00 for members and $2,150.00 for non-members.
