| Chesapeake Chapter - Keeper of the Quarter! | |
| Bulletin Release provided by U.S. Lighthouse Society We are pleased to announce Anne Puppa as keeper of the third quarter on 2004-2005. Anne has been the Chapter’s Vice President for Preservation since the inception of the position in 1997. Ms. Puppa was also the Chapter’s President from 2001-2004. Under her leadership, the Chesapeake Chapter’s volunteer preservation program has become well known throughout the Chesapeake Bay lighthouse community and the Chapter’s volunteers are in high demand by lighthouses in the region. Anne has established and led the preservation or maintenance efforts at Fort Washington Bell Tower, the Chesapeake Lightship, Seven-Foot Knoll Lighthouse, Cove Point lighthouse, Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse. She also established a program at the Coast Guard Exhibit Center, where Chapter volunteers have spent countless hours helping the Coast Guard maintain and preserve several Fresnel lenses. The Coast Guard has honored six of our volunteers with Certi?cates of Merit for this work. Since the Society & Chapter took over the management of the Thomas Point Shoal lighthouse in May 2004, Anne has been very busy preparing for its preservation, working with professional lighthouse preservationist Cullen Chambers, recruiting volunteers, setting up a volunteer preservation training session given by Tom McGrath from the National Park Service Historic Preservation Training Center, and translating the Preservation Plan developed by Mr. Chambers into a schedule of activities for monthly preservation weekends at the lighthouse, which will start this spring. The Volunteer Preservation Program is one of the proud jewels of the Chesapeake Chapter, and this is in large part due to Anne’s leadership, dedication, and thoroughness. For this work and for her signifcant contributions to the preservation and maintenance of lighthouses throughout the Chesapeake Bay, we honor her as Keeper of the Quarter. | |
