Chesapeake Chapter - MD 2004 Lighthouse Challenge Full Article
2nd Annual Maryland Lighthouse Challenge!

The second annual Maryland Lighthouse Challenge will be held the weekend of September 18-19, 2004. Like last year, nine land-based lighthouses and the Chesapeake lightship in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor will make up the Challenge lights. However, this year’s ‘rewards’ will not be stickers, but something completely different – collectible lighthouse cards. Be the first on your block to collect all ten!

We are working with the lighthouse organizations to extend their hours to accommodate the Challenge participants. As of 23-AUG-2004 CONCORD POINT is waiving the admission fees - no admission charges, but gratefully accepting donations; POINT LOOKOUT - the Chapter has recently been advised that the lighthouse will be open for Challenge Days; and BALTIMORE MARITIME MUSEUM - there will be no charge to enter Seven Foot Knoll, but the normal $3.00 museum charge to go onto the Chesapeake Lightship. We will try to let you know what the situation is as we get closer to the Challenge date. Hope for nice weather this time around!

Commeriative BaseHarbor Lights has created a special set of Little Lights of Mine made for the Maryland Challenge featuring all ten Challenge lights. Each of the Little Lights in this boxed set has a special bottom imprint commemorating the 2004 Lighthouse Challenge and identifying the lighthouse.

Only 200 sets will be created to mark the event. Sets can be pre-ordered through the Calvert Marine Museum The sets can either be picked up during the Maryland Lighthouse Challenge or shipped to your home if you won't be attending. To order, call the Calvert Marine Museum at 410-326-2750 or visit their web site at http://www.calvertmarinemuseum.com/.

For you Harbour Lights collectors, Nancy Younger will be at the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomon’s Maryland. So stop by, say hello and get your special Challenge set of Little Lights autographed or other Harbor Lights collectibles.

As was done last year, those that complete both the Maryland and the New Jersey Lighthouse Challenges will receive a certificate. The New Jersey Lighthouse Challenge will be held the weekend of October 16 – 17 and includes 11 lighthouses. Further information on the New Jersey Lighthouse Challenge is available on the web at www.njlhs.burlco.org, email to njlhchallenge@hotmail.com, or by calling 856-546-0514.
