The
Chesapeake Chapter Needs Your Help!
One of the missions of our Chapter is to educate, inform and
entertain those who are interested in the Chesapeake Bay area
lighthouses.
The best way to help promote both the Chapter
and the Bay area lights is to become part of the Chapter's publicity
team. The only qualifications for this position are:
A love of lighthouses
A desire to become more involved in Chesapeake
Chapter activities
A desire to spend time with fellow lighthouse
enthusiasts
While we have an enthusiastic group of people
on the team, many of us have additional positions within the
Chapter. As a consequence, there are times when we simply don't have
enough volunteers to go around and are unable to staff tables at
some of the publicity events. Meanwhile, our goal remains not only
to grow the publicity team to cover upcoming events, but also to
increase the number of events we are able to participate in each
year. Many great personal and organizational connections are made
during these events.
With the opening of lighthouse season this
year came word of some great publicity opportunities:
The Piney Point Lighthouse, Museum and
Historic Park is hosting their annual Waterfront Celebration on
Saturday and Sunday, May 14 and 15 from 10:00 am - 5:00, both days.
We will be setting up a Chapter display at this event.
The Charles County River Artsfest will be held
on June 11 from 10am to 5 pm. It's held at the "Village Green" in
Indian Head. The Chapter will be setting up a display.
From April through November there are monthly
open houses at Point Lookout Lighthouse. The open houses run 10:00
am - 2:00 pm. The dates for the upcoming open houses are as follows:
May 7, June 4, July 9, August 6, September 10, October 1, November
5. We have a standing invitation to set up a Chapter table at any of
these events.
If you would like to become part of the
publicity team and volunteer at one or more of these fun events,
we'd love to have you. Please contact me, Dave Rosage, at (410)
437-0741 or publicity@cheslights.org We'll get you started by
volunteering at an event with other members of the team who will
gladly teach you the ropes. There is nothing to it, and it's a great
way to put your love of lighthouses to good use! |

Choptank Lighthouse nears $600,000 goal! At the
end of the legislative session, Maryland lawmakers approved
a $230,000 local bond bill for the Choptank River
Lighthouse. The funds will go towards the construction
of the "cottage," or top half of the replica lighthouse,
which is part of Phase 3 of the project.

Search and Raise Money!
If only the Chesapeake Chapter
had a penny for every time you searched the Internet… Now we can!
Now you can raise money for the Chapter just by searching the
Internet at
GoodSearch.com.
You use GoodSearch.com like any other search engine - the site is
powered by Yahoo! - but each time you do, money is generated for us.
Here is how it works:
1. Go to
www.goodsearch.com 2. Type CHESAPEAKE or
LIGHTHOUSE into the "I support" box and click on "verify"
3. Pick United States Lighthouse Society -
USLHS - Chesapeake Chapter 4. Search the
Internet just like you would with any search engine 5.
Since GoodSearch shares its advertising revenue with charities and
schools, every time you search the Internet at GoodSearch, you will
be earning money for our lighthouse efforts.
GoodSearch also has a toolbar you can download from the homepage so
that you can search right from the top of your browser.
You can keep track of our estimated earnings by clicking on "amount
raised" once you designate us as your organization of choice. The
more people who use the site, the more money we will earn, so please
spread the word!!
Help us keep the lights shining!
